WTA: Settlement in the case of Genie Bouchard

Eugenie Bouchard and the American Tennis Association reached an agreement in their trial on Friday. However, the details remained secret.

After the USTA was found guilty on Thursday (with a 25 percent contributory negligence of Bouchard), the next day it was about the amount of the claim for damages. Apparently the parties disagreed for a long time – allegedly Genie and her mother Julie wanted more than their lawyers had found acceptable. But in the end there was an agreement.

She was “relieved and happy”, said Bouchard afterwards, and now wants to return to the tennis court. For the upcoming tournament in Indian Wells, the world rankings-116 is hoping. on a wildcard.

The incident in New York – Bouchard slipped on liquid soap at the U. S. Open 2015 after a late match in the locker room and suffered a concussion – sent her into a downward spiral from which she had not recovered, her lawyer argued. The opportunity to reach the semi-finals at least was extremely high, because the other opponents, Roberta Vinci and Kristina Mladenovic, were behind Bouchard. Bouchard would have won against semi-finalist Serena Williams as well (although this was “only” the case at the Hopman Cup, Note. d. Red.).

The other party pointed out that Bouchard had only lost to Vinci last week and had a negative record against Mladenovic. Everyone who has sponsored her before has continued to do so,”it was said. Bouchard also remained very marketable because she had a large number of followers in the social media sector.
