ATP: Zverev, Thiem stable – “Gojo” on top 50

Tournament victories pay off in the ATP world rankings: Diego Schwartzman, Frances Tiafoe and Karen Khachanov make big leaps towards the top in the charts.

Well done, nothing has happened: Dominic Thiem’s missed title defence in Rio de Janeiro could be summarized as follows: Austria’s number one in the ATP world ranking remains on position six, and the next big tasks are waiting for him in Acapulco this week. The same applies to the German number one Alexander Zverev, who continues to occupy fifth place in the current charts led by Roger Federer ahead of Rafael Nadal.

The tournament winners of the past week made great leaps forward: Diego Schwartzman made it into the top 20 for the first time with his triumph in Rio, and now ranks 17th. Karen Khachanov improved by six places to 41st place with the title and 250 points from Marseille. Delray Beach winner Frances Tiafoe, who is now number 61 in the world, flew up to 30 positions. For Peter Gojowczyk, too, the strong week in Florida paid off:”Entering the final was rewarded with a jump from 13 places to 51st place. Tiafoe also moved up to second place behind Andrey Rublev with his premiere title in the Race to Milan.

In the race for places at the season’s end in London, Diego Schwartzman has put himself in an early, good position: the Argentinean is in sixth place ahead of Dominic Thiem. This ranking is led by the finalists of the Australian Open, Roger Federer and Marin Cilic.
