ATP: Tristesse in Indian Wells: Tsonga and Gasquet have to cancel

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet have to cancel their start at the Masters-1000 tournament in Indian Wells and continue to suffer injuries.

There are next cancellations for the Master 1000 tournament in Indian Wells. Just a few days ago Stan Wawrinka explained that he will not serve at the Sunshine-Double in Indian Wells and Miami due to a lack of fitness. Now two more high-ranking personalities are added to the cancellation list.

For one thing, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will not travel to the USA. The Frenchman has been out of shape for several weeks and only played six matches in 2018. After losing in the third round of the Australian Open, Tsonga had to give up in the semi-finals at Montpellier and then moved back to Rotterdam and his home country Marseille. It is not known how long the 32-year-old will be absent.

Richard Gasquet, Tsongas countryman, will not play in Indian Wells either. The Frenchman is also struggling with a persistent injury he sustained in Rotterdam. In the first round Gasquet had to give up against Pierre-Hugues Herbert and now misses the tournament in the USA.

For the second time in a row, fans in Indian Wells will have to do without the Frenchman’s arts. Gasquet was unable to compete with the previous year’s edition. So far, the 31-year-old has played a great season and was fit for the year 2018. At the Australian Open he had to admit defeat of Roger Federer and reached the finals in Montpellier.
