WTA: Tsurenko defends Acapulco title, Maria wins the double

Lesia Tsurenko has won the WTA tournament in Acapulco for the second time in a row. In the doubles competition Tatjana Maria won the title.

Tsurenko defeated Stefanie Vögele from Switzerland, who played her first final ever on the WTA Tour, in an extremely tight final. 5:7,7:6 (2) and 6:2 were the words of the Ukrainian after a 2:44 hour season. Tsurenko convinced above all with her serve: She served ten aces and didn’t make a single double mistake at the same time. In the second set, however, the Swiss player only missed three points on her greatest career success.

“For me the whole match was a mental story,”explained the winner after the match,”I was very tense at the beginning. Nothing worked, especially the serve, which isn’t my favorite hit anyway. “I’m just telling myself I need to relax and play through to the end.”

In the doubles competition, Tatjana Maria was delighted to win the tournament: The German Fed Cup player and her British partner Heather Watson won the final against Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria (both from the USA) in the match tiebreak.
