Davis Cup: Goffin, Pouille and Noah win Davis Cup”Oscars”.

David Goffin, Lucas Pouille and Yannick Noah have won the Davis Cup”Oscars”. In a twitter vote of the Davis Cup portal, the Belgian and the two Frenchmen prevailed.

In the category “best player” David Goffin did not fool anyone. The World Ranked Seventh lost the Davis Cup final at the end of November 2017 with Belgium 2-3 to hosts France in Lille, but the 27-year-old won his two singles against Lucas Pouille and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. And each in three sentences. Goffin received 83 percent of the votes in the election. Marton Fucsovics (9 percent Hungarian), Darian King (Barbados) and Harshana Godamanna (both 4 percent Sri Lanka) took the other places.

Lucas Pouille (24) was awarded the title of “Most Valuable Player”. In the final, he had won the last and decisive match against Steve Darcis 6-3,6-1,6-0 and had fulfilled a childhood dream in the Stade Pierre Mauroy. The right-hander, who is currently ranked 12th in the ATP world ranking list, won the vote with 41 percent, but only very thinly ahead of Darcis (40 percent). Marco Chiudinelli (13 percent/Switzerland) and Aqeel Khan (6 percent/Pakistan) followed in third and fourth place.

France’s Davis Cup team boss Yannick Noah was named “best director”, as it was officially called. The 57-year-old beat Paul Haarhuis (15 per cent in the Netherlands), Hussein Badreddine (7 per cent in Lebanon) and Gabor Koves (4 per cent in Hungary) with 74 per cent and thus with an overwhelming majority. Noah had led the Tricolore squad to their first triumph since 2001.
