WTA: Serena Williams ready for Indian Wells comeback
Former tennis world number one Serena Williams is ready for her second comeback after the baby break,”I know I’m not at my highest level yet, but it’s better every day. And as long as I keep moving forward, even if it’s like a turtle, that’s okay with me,”said the 23-times Grand Slam winner in an interview with the BBC.
Serena Williams’ opening match in Indian Wells, California, is expected to meet Kazakhstan’s Sarina Dijas on Thursday. In the last sixteen, there is a duel with her sister Venus, who is seated at number eight. A motivation to continue playing on the tour is their offspring. She would like her daughter to see her play herself, explained the 36-year-old.
Serena Williams had played her last match on the WTA tour at her Australian Open triumph in January 2017. This was followed by a one-year break for babies before she and her sister Venus lost the meaningless doubles in the Fed Cup against the Netherlands at the beginning of February.
Williams had reported earlier this year about her health problems after the birth of her daughter Alexis Olympia by Caesarean section. The procedure went well,”everything went badly after that. Several blood clots were discovered in her lungs during a CT scan. She had to take anticoagulants. After her return home, she could not leave the bed for six weeks.
