WTA: Judy Murray leads workshop at Nuremberg tournament
Judy Murray will for the second time in a row play a major role in the supporting program of the NÜRNBERGER Insurance Cup (20. till 26. May). The mother of former world number one Andy Murray and double specialist Jamie Murray will run a workshop for coaches and youth workers and two tennis camps for girls.
Judy Murray is known as a humorous and socially critical spirit. The Twitter account of the former Scottish national tennis champion enjoys cult status in the felt ball scene. The 58-year-old has developed a successful programme in Great Britain under the label”Miss Hits”, which teaches young girls the fun of tennis and offers tailor-made training courses. FC Nuremberg.
Barbara Rittner, Head of Women’s Tennis at the DTB and former Fed Cup team boss, will also take part in a talk on the fringes of the WTA tournament at Valzner Weiher: “I’m really looking forward to being back at the NÜRNBERGER Insurance Cup”, said Murray: “I had a lot of fun training sessions with the girls from the region last year. It’s great that the tournament gives so many young players the chance to be part of a WTA event featuring the world’s best stars”.
For tournament director Sandra Reichel, Murray, who was awarded the Order of the British Emire (OBE) in 2017 by the Queen for her services to promoting young tennis players, is a”direct hit”:”Judy is an outstanding figure in tennis and a highly respected expert. Last year, she showed us her commitment to the cause,” said Reichel.
Since the premiere in Nuremberg in 2013, the promotion of female talent has been an essential part of the tournament philosophy – both in the supporting programme and in the awarding of wildcards for the qualification and the main field.
