WTA: Daria Kasatkina dreams of Golden Slam

Daria Kasatkina is one of the rising stars on the WTA tour. Now the Russian spoke about her dreams for the future.

Daria Kasatkina really caught attention in Indian Wells. The Russian played her way into the final and lost to Naomi Osaka, also a young player.

Nevertheless, the 20-year-old is a hot candidate for the future and a serious opponent for every player.

Kasatkina already has great dreams for the coming years. After the Indian Wells final, the Russian said: “I have explained this quite often. My dream is that I can celebrate four major victories and one Olympic victory in one year.”

Several players, including Rod Laver and Margaret Court, have won the Grand Slam, i.e. all four major titles in one year. The Golden Slam (four major titles and the gold medal in the same year’s Olympic Games) has so far only been won by one player in the history of professional tennis. German tennis legend Steffi Graf celebrated this unprecedented success in 1988.

Kasatkina’s goal is extremely ambitious. Not even the most successful tennis player of the Open Era, Serena Williams, was to be granted this triumph. The ex-number-one holds 23 major titles and won gold in London 2012 at the Olympics.

Kasatkina, on the other hand, has won the title in her young career so far. Last year, the Russian left the field as the winner in Charleston when she defeated Yelena Ostapenko in the final.

There is still enough time for Kasatkina to fulfill her dream. The tennis world will be eager to see how the coming years will develop for the rising WTA star.
