ATP: Next generation of tennis players: Ernests Gulbis also became a father

Ernests Gulbis has become a father, according to Latvian media reports. According to Latvian media reports, his Georgian wife Tamara Kopaleyshvili gave birth to a daughter more than a week ago.

As at her wedding last autumn, the birth happened far away from the public. Even then, Gulbis expressed himself philosophically and put happiness with his family above success in sport: “I think that marriage is above everything,” said Gulbis, “That’s the most important decision to make in life, it’s above everything, even tennis.

Already on Thursday Radek Stepanek reported that his ex-wife and current partner Nicole Vaidisova was expecting a child. Last Sunday, the former world number one and wife of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Ana Ivanovic, gave birth to his son.

Gulbis played two qualifiers at ATP tournaments (Sofia, Dubai) in the current season, where he reached the main field. There, however, he suffered a first-round defeat both times. The 29-year-old also tried his luck this year with three chalengers, in which he scored a match of 2-3.

A few weeks ago, the French Open semi-finalist from 2014 talked about the hard life as a tennis pro with his once unconventional forehand technique.

“We need some security,” Gulbis said at the ATP-500 tournament in Dubai: “Professionals in the world rankings between 100 and 150 are really good tennis players, but they have no security. I think there are more athletes in other sports who can feel safe.”
