ATP: Novak Djokovic explains Formtief: “Made important changes”
Novak Djokovic is in a sports crisis and does not seem to get off the ground after his comeback. After his early retirement in Barcelona, ex-number-one is looking for explanations.
Martin Klizan was the final stop for Djokovic in Barcelona. The Serb hit Catalonia with a wildcard and had to travel home after only three sets. Already at the Masters in Monte Carlo things didn’t go well for the “Djoker”.
Djokovic had imagined his comeback differently. Understandably so. After his retirement, the former world number one almost seemed to want to apologize to the journalists and fans: “I feel that I didn’t live up to your expectations. Not even mine.” Words of frustration Djokovic uttered. Maybe a little helplessness.
“It is difficult to deal with such matches and defeats. I didn’t play my best tennis; I have to find my rhythm again,” Djokovic added.
The twelve-time Grand Slam champion, however, seemed perplexed and insecure – not to mention an obvious fighting spirit.
However, the Serb seems to have found an answer to the missing results: “I have made important and inevitable changes to my game that affect everything else.
That means Djokovic has to be patient. He continues to focus on hard training and wants to give himself time for change and improvement, he added.
However, the Serb will not collect the missing match practice in Estoril. He rejected the wildcard for the tournament in Portugal and is betting on the big tournaments to come before the French Open. The Master events in Madrid and Rome will then go further than the first round.
