ATP: Tournament in Hamburg: Zverev hopes for changes
Alexander Zverev (21) will again not participate in this year’s ATP tournament in his hometown Hamburg, but does not want to rule out a start for the future.
However, Germany’s best tennis professional emphasized on Sunday before the start of the BMW Open in Munich that the Rothenbaum will no longer be played on sand but on hard court. Hamburg clashes with hard court tournaments in North America to prepare for the US Open at the end of August.
Zverev reported that he had already discussed the subject with Michael Reichel. After the event this year (21 to 29 July), the Austrian will take over the role of tournament director from Michael Stich. “We will try”, Zverev explained, “to make Hamburg a hard court tournament”. If this happens, he will sign a contract and commit himself to the tournament. “I still want the best for the city and the tournament, I’ll do everything I can to play there,” said Zverev.
