ATP: Kohlschreiber has Karlovic under control in Munich

Philipp Kohlschreiber has reached the second round of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Munich: The native of Augsburg defeated Ivo Karlovic 7:5 and 6:4.

The mission title number four in Munich is getting off to a good start for Philipp Kohlschreiber: The German Davis Cup player showed a highly concentrated performance against Ivo Karlovic and won 7:5 and 6:4 after 76 minutes as the winner of the MTTC Iphitos Center Court.

Kohlschreiber proved to be the better tennis player – and above all a better setback – throughout the match. While Karlovic did not have a single break chance during the whole match, the German number two struck 6:5 in the first set and 3:2 in the second. That was enough for Kohlschreiber to serve out confidently, Karlovic’s last return sailed into the end.

Kohlschreiber, who was last successful in Munich in 2016, is now waiting for the winner of the game between Mischa Zverev and Andreas Haider-Maurer. Almost at the same time, Yannick Maden also qualified for the round of 16: He defeated eighth seeded Yuichi Sugita in three sets and now plays against Jan-Lennard Struff, who beat Daniel Masur as last year.
