ATP: Roberto Bautista Agut attacks ATP: “The opinion of the players has no weight”.
Roberto Bautista Agut has been among the top 20 in the world in recent years. Now the Spaniard expressed his displeasure at ATP’s treatment of the players.
It’s too tight a schedule. This issue has been criticized by many players in the past and the players have taken the ATP association to task. Now also the Spaniard Bautista Agut took the all-round shot and attacked the unit.
In an interview with Punto de Break, the world ranking fifteenth said: “I don’t feel that the opinion of the players is very important for the ATP. “It feels more like two fronts, although we should pull together.”
According to the 30-year-old, the players are not considered enough by the ATP. An example of this is the constant change of cue balls. “It would certainly not be bad if we played the same ball each season (sand, grass or hard court, editor’s note). It would make things a lot easier instead of having to play with a different ball every week,” the Spaniard continued.
The biggest problem, however, is that the schedule is so tight: “I can see for myself that long matches at the Grand Slams or the Davis Cup are very stressful for the players. “By the end of the week, you’re just done.” The matches over three winning sets are not a problem, but rather the many tournaments that make the players tired. “The ATP should start with the tournament calendar. She shouldn’t force us to play so many tournaments – 18 in my case.”
Bautista Agut is one of the physically strongest players on the tour and is considered an endurance package and still seems to reach its limits.
The topic of the tournament calendar does not seem to have been discussed for a long time yet. Bautista Agut’s complaint in this case is only one of many that have not yet been answered.
