ATP: Struff in Munich quarter-finals
Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein) was the first German to reach the quarter-finals at the ATP tournament in Munich. The Davis Cup player won the German duel against Yannick Maden (Stuttgart) in 1:40 hours 6:3, 3:6, 6:3 after an unexpectedly hard fight.
Twelve aces and a success rate of 79 percent over the first serve were the deciding factors for Struff. The number 62 in the world took the trend-setting break at 5:3 and then served with difficulty.
In the last eight, Struff will face Alexander Zverev (Hamburg) or Yannick Hanfmann (Karlsruhe). At least one German will be in the semi-finals of the BMW Open. A total of eight Germans had reached the round of 16.
The first player to reach the quarter-finals was Martin Klizan (Slovakia). The 2014 winner, who had only qualified for the main draw this time, defeated Mirza Basic (Bosnia-Herzegovina) 4:6, 6:3, 7:5.
