ATP: Estoril: Stefanos Tsitsipas beats Anderson, Hewitt in double
Stefanos Tsitsipas is still on fire: After his sensational tournament in Barcelona he won against the top seeded Kevin Anderson in Estoril on Thursday evening.
Final in Barcelona – and what happens next in Estoril? Just as strong so far: After winning his first-round match against Pablo Andujar, Tsitsipas won today against Kevin Anderson, number eight in the world and number one in Portugal. Result: 6:7 (3), 6:3, 6:3 after 2 hours and 12 minutes of play. Tsitsipas showed strong nerves and used his two break chances. In the quarter-finals, he will face Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain.
The end came for double comebacker Lleyton Hewitt. At the side of his protégé Alex de Minaur, the former number one lost 4:6, 6:7 (4) against Kyle Edmund/Cameron Norrie. Not without the usual fighting spirit – at 4:5 in set two the Australians already fended off a match point.
In round one, the two surprisingly defeated the two seeded Raven Klasen/Michael Venus. Hewitt had announced: “I don’t know which other events I will play, but there will certainly be some.” Youngster de Minaur celebrated his first double victory in Estoril. “He has a great future ahead of him and it was a lot of fun,” Hewitt said.
