WTA: After Madrid bankruptcy: Svetlana Kuznetsova thinks about ending her career

Old champion Svetlana Kuznetsova is currently going through a severe sports crisis. If this continues, the Russian is even thinking about ending her career.

Kuznetsova had to accept the next big precipitation at the current WTA Mandatory Event in Madrid. With 4:6 and 2:6 the 32-year-old Croatian Petra Martic had to admit defeat.

Also at the past big events in Miami and Indian Wells it set defeats and Kuznetsova does not seem to find her old strength again after her wrist operation last year.

“I am far from my best. I’m coming back from an injury and have to concentrate on it,” said Kuznetsova after the opening defeat in Madrid at Punto de Break. The first operation of her career is a new situation for her and rehabilitation is completely different from her previous injuries, Kuznetsova added.

The Russian has experienced a second spring in recent years and returned to the top 10, especially in 2016 and 2017, but now she has dropped back to 27th place and the success curve does not seem to be improving.

If the successes do not materialize in the near future, the old champion even thinks about ending her career: “I will fight until the moment of my resignation, but I’m tired of playing like this. I’ve always said I’ll play for a few more years, but only if I play well and am one of the best. If I keep losing, it won’t be long now.”

The 2004 US Open winner and 2009 French Open Queen wants to give herself the chance to live a different life. “When I’m 35, I don’t want to play tennis anymore, that’s my limit. After that I want to give myself a chance and lead a different life”, says “Kuzi”.

The deadline has been set and will hopefully be pushed to the limit. That is what we wish for the fighter.
