ATP: ATP Madrid: Novak Djokovic takes another bust
Novak Djokovic is still on the sporting trough: At the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid, Kyle Edmund from Serbia lost 3:6, 6:2, 3:6 in the second round.
Djokovic, who had defeated the former US Open finalist Kei Nishikori (Japan) in the opening match, suffered his sixth defeat in the twelfth match of the season. The “Djoker”, who slipped to twelfth place in the world rankings, did not even reach the quarter-finals at six tournament starts in 2018.
In the first round the Serb had big problems with his own service. After three service losses and only 36 percent points won over the second Djokovic had to run behind a set deficit.
In the second act, the former world number one demonstrated that he did not want to be shaken off. After another loss of serve by Edmund, Djokovic did not let go of the set equalization.
In the decision, the crisis-ridden Serb could not use three break points to lead 3-2. The penalty followed in the eighth game: With his strong forehand and thanks to numerous mistakes of the former industry leader, Edmund was able to celebrate his first victory in the fourth comparison with Djokovic after 1:43 hour.
