WTA Madrid: Petra Kvitova outdoes Karolina Pliskova and completes final
Petra Kvitova wins the WTA Mandatory Event in Madrid in a close match against the favourite Karolina Pliskova and completes the final.
The second semi-final at the mandatory event in Madrid was won by the Czech Karolina Pliskova. In a close game, number six beat their compatriot Petra Kvitova.
Pliskova got the better start to the game and promptly grabbed Kvitova’s serve for a quick 2-0 lead. The 26-year-old did not let the lead slip away for a long time and shone above all due to her strong serve. The series of the Porsche Grand Prix winner did not seem to be broken by Kvitova either.
The ex-number one, however, was shaking at 4:3 on his own serve and Kvitova consistently used her chance to equalize 4:4. However, the joy of the two-time Grand Slam winner did not last long. In return, Pliskova struck again and then re-break again. A real break festival developed.
The decision was to bring a tiebreak in which Pliskova did not have much in common. Kvitova only had to wait for her opponent’s mistakes and won the first round 7:6 (4).
Pliskova’s serve was also reduced in the second race and so the 26-year-old had to give up her service right at the beginning. The game subsequently regained its quality and both players did not give themselves any nudity in their own service games.
Kvitova remained unscathed until the end and finally won 7:6 (4) and 6:3 and will now face Kiki Bertens in the final, who easily beat Caroline Garcia.
