WTA Madrid: Victory over Garcia: Kiki Bertens books final ticket

Kiki Bertens has booked the first final ticket at the WTA Mandatory Event in Madrid. In two sets, the Dutch woman won against Caroline Garcia.

Kiki Bertens had an absolute cream day during her semi-final appearance against the favourite Caroline Garcia. The world’s number 20 left no doubt from the outset that she wanted to bag her first ticket to the final in Madrid.

On the other side was an overtaxed Frenchwoman who could not live up to her world ranking position. Bertens took control of the world’s number seven from the start and played great tennis on the Red Ashes of Madrid.

After only 32 minutes and two breaks the number 20 secured the world’s first round with 6:2.

Bertens did not let up in the second round either and played her opponent against the wall at times. 23 minutes were played in the second set and the Dutch woman was again in front with two breaks. The 4:1 on the scoreboard showed the class difference that day between Bertens and Garcia.

Garcia, who had travelled to Madrid with great ambitions, never found her way into the match and had to realize that there was nothing to win on Friday’s semi-final.

With the 2:5 Garcia still operated a little result correction, before Bertens missed the game after only 68 minutes with own serve to the 6:2 and 6:2 final score.
