ATP: Peter Gojowczyk already in the quarter-finals in Geneva
Peter Gojowczyk’s successful run at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Geneva continues: The man from Dachau beat David Ferrer in two sets and is already in the quarter-finals.
David Ferrer had caused German tennis a great deal of pain at the Davis Cup in Valencia when he defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-5 in the fifth set in the decisive fifth match. Peter Gojowczyk was, unlike the first Davis Cup encounter in Australia, not in the team in the bullring. Still made short work of Ferrer at 6:2 and 6:4.
The affair in Switzerland lasted only 75 minutes. Gojowczyk did not have to give up his service once, but in return Ferrer lost the service three times. The Dachauer had already shown his good form at the beginning, beating Ivo Karlovic in the tiebreak of the third set.
Last week in Rome, Gojowczyk, who is the last remaining German in the Geneva tableau after Florian Mayer and Dominik Köpfer retired, won two games, including round one against Sam Querrey.
My next opponent in Geneva will be either Andreas Seppi from Italy or the Spanish qualifier Berabe Zapata Miralles. The latter had celebrated his first ever victory against Florian Mayer in a main draw on the ATP Tour. The match between Seppi and the Spaniard had to be interrupted longer on Tuesday due to rain.
