ATP: Darkness – Dominic Thiem has to go into extra time in Lyon
Dominic Thiem may have to play twice at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Lyon on Friday: The match of the Austrian number one against Guillermo Garcia Lopez had to be abandoned due to darkness after Thiem’s set equaliser.
Talking brings people together. Or, however, it is discussed until it is definitely too dark for well-groomed men’s tennis. After losing the second set against Dominic Thiem, Guillermo Garcia Lopez did not want to continue his day at work, forced the break-off at exactly 8:41 pm Lyon time.
From the Spaniard’s point of view it was understandable: After all, more than two hours had already been played – and in the tie-break of round two Thiem had granted his 34-year-old opponent some extra running units.
So the last quarter-final of Lyon on Friday must continue at 6:7 (4) and 7:6 (0) from the Austrian’s point of view. With Dusan Lajovic, the opponent in the semi-finals has already been determined. The second semi-final will be played by Gilles Simon and the Briton Cameron Norrie.
