WTA: Simona Halep lonely at the top, Angelique Kerber good in the race
Simona Halep is the woman of the hour in women’s tennis: The Romanian leads both the regular WTA World Ranking and the 2018 World Cup.
Simona Halep’s success at the French Open cements her supremacy in the WTA world rankings: The Romanian not only defended her points from last year, but also added a few more points by beating Sloane Stephens in the final. The American, on the other hand, reaches a new career high, she is led to position four.
Behind Halep, Caroline Wozniacki and Garbine Muguruza remain in second and third places, seventh place also means the best position in their careers for Caroline Garcia.
Angelique Kerber, who defeated Garcia in Roland Garros but lost to Simona Halep in the quarter-finals, is again the best German in the charts as eleventh. Julia Görges, who failed in Paris due to Serena Williams, follows in 13th place.
Serena has made up 266 places and will be ranked 155 this week.
In the Porsche Race to Singapore Halep is now also leading confidently, Angelique Kerber is fifth in this classification after reaching the quarter-finals in Paris.
