ATP: Novak Djokovic gets wildcard for grass court tournament in Queen’s

Novak Djokovic has made a decision regarding its lawn season. The Serbian received a wild card from the organisers of the ATP tournament at London’s Queen’s Club, with which he will play the grass court tournament in England’s capital for the first time in eight years.

“The atmosphere is always great, so I’m looking forward to playing in front of a British audience again,” said the three-time Wimbeldon champion.

“Lawn is very special. It’s the rarest surface, so I’m happy to take part in this very busy tournament. “This will be a great preparation for Wimbledon.”

With Djokovic’s acceptance, 17 of the top 30 of the ATP world rankings will now open in Queen’s. After losing to Marco Cecchinato in the quarter-finals of the French Open, Djokovic had made a possible break during the grass court season.

“I can’t give you any answers,” said the 12-time Grand Slam winner.

Djokovic last played in Queen’s in 2010, when he won the double title together with Jonathan Erlich. Due to an elbow injury the Serb slipped to position 22 in the ranking. His 20th place at Roland Garros was the worst since the US Open 2006.

Besides Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka, Milos Raonic, and Andy Murray, who was also injured, also named for Queen’s.
