ATP: Premiere! Mischa Zverev wins first title on tour in Eastbourne
Mischa Zverev celebrated his first tournament victory at the ATP World Tour 250 event in Eastbourne: The 30-year-old German defeated Lukas Lacko 6:4 and 6:4.
Premiere for Mischa Zverev: The left-hander won his first tournament on the ATP tour in Eastbourne. In the final of the 250cc event Zverev won after 97 minutes against the Slovak Lukas Lacko 6:4 and 6:4.
Zverev started with a break and defended it until 6-4 and in the second set, too, it was the 30-year-old who first gained an advantage. And he had strong nerves until the end.
Lacko and Zverev had faced each other until the final in Eastbourne – and also in 2017 the German won with exactly the same result as in Great Britain. The three-week grass court season thus brought two premiere winners from a German perspective: Tatjana Maria won her first WTA tournament on Mallorca, now Mischa Zverev is also allowed to operate as ATP winner.
In the world rankings, Zverev returns from 67th place to the top 50 and also cashed a winner’s cheque for 117,930 euros. In Wimbledon, Pierre-Hugues Herbert will be the next difficult task starting Monday.
