Wimbledon: Defending champion Garbine Muguruza also fails early

The death of favourites at the Grand Slam classic in Wimbledon continues. Spanish defending champion Garbine Muguruza retired as the sixth top 10 player on Thursday evening.
Belgium’s Alison van Uytvanck lost to third place in the world rankings 7-5, 2-6, 1-6. 23 Unforced Errors were allowed and Muguruza scored the point in only 41 percent of the cases when her second serve came. Van Uytvanck is number 47 in the WTA ranking.
The days before, Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark/No. 2), Jelena Switolina (Ukraine/No. 4), Sloane Stephens (USA/No. 5), Caroline Garcia (France/No. 6) and the two-time title winner Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic/No. 8) had already failed surprisingly early.
