Wimbledon: Royal visit: Meghan and Kate come to Kerbers Wimbledon finale
Duchess Meghan and Duchess Kate have announced their visit for the Wimbledon Final between Angelique Kerber and Serena Williams. This was announced by the British royal family on Thursday via their Twitter account.
Former US actress Meghan Markle is a good friend of the record Grand Slam winner Williams, who was a guest at Markles wedding with Prince Harry in May together with her husband Alexis Ohanian.
“We’ve had a very good friendship for a long time,” Williams said: “She’s often supported me in Wimbledon, now she’s coming back – in a slightly different role.” The Men’s Final on Sunday will also be attended by Kate, then Prince William together with his husband. Kate is the official patron of the prestigious tennis tournament in the south of London.
Royal guests have a long tradition in Wimbledon. Duchess Camilla, wife of British Crown Prince Charles, had already been to Wimbledon on Wednesday. Queen Elizabeth II only came to the tournament four times during her reign. I am told that tennis is not one of her favourite sports. Her last match in 2010 was a second-round match of the later winner Andy Murray.
