ATP: Despite 36 centimetres difference: Sela wins for the first time against Karlovic
For the first time in his career, Dudi Sela has won the “great duel” against Ivo Karlovic.
Ivo Karlovic, 2.11 metres tall, against Dudi Sela, 1.75 metres “small” – it is one of the cult duels in tennis – especially since Sela’s legendary action after the clash in Bogota in 2014…
“Humour is when you laugh anyway”: This is how you could describe the motto of the man from Israel so far, because Sela lost against Dr. Ivo in all seven games – he only won one set.
Sela, currently number 156 in the world, celebrated his first victory at the ATP tournament in Newport: He won 7:6 (6), 6:7 (4), 6:2 against Karlovic (110th).
Sela had already led twice with a break in round two, but the 39-year-old Croat Karlovic fought for the set equaliser again. In the deciding set, Sela took the decisive break to 4-2 and in the end – to zero – the 6-2, playing Steve Johnson in the quarter-finals.
