ATP: Rafael Nadal on “best beach in the world” holiday

One reason why the Spaniard is so attached to his homeland?

For Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, the Wimbledon tournament ended soberingly: “Many fans had secretly hoped for a new edition of their legendary 2008 final, and the early appearances of the world’s No. 1 and No. 2 had certainly given cause for hope.

Federer lost surprisingly against Kevin Anderson in the quarter-finals (despite match point and 11-13 in set five), Nadal lost in the semi-finals of the Novak Djokovic tournament (8-10 in set five), although he also had good chances to win.

While Federer currently seems to have disappeared from the scene, Nadal is enjoying the sun and a good mood on the Balearic Islands, the stretch of the sea not far from his beloved homeland Manacor on Mallorca.

“As many of you know: What I like best about Spain are the beaches. They are the best in the world,” Nadal raved on Twitter. After his demise against Djokovic he had already sounded in tune with himself – and rightly so, because he could not reproach himself much. “I’m going on vacation now, proud of what I’ve accomplished.”

In his declaration of love to Spain’s beaches, Nadal said: “I strongly recommend you check them out yourself!” So if you are looking for a last-minute holiday – Spain’s unofficial tourism director would be happy to see you!
