ATP World Ranking: Fognini approaches the top ten, Thiem approaches eighth again
Fabio Fognini and Marco Cecchinato climb up the ATP world rankings. Dominic Thiem also makes a good place.
The remarkable Sunday for the Italian tennis pros is also reflected in the current ATP world rankings: Fabio Fognini, who defeated Richard Gasquet in the final in Bastad, moved up one position to 14th place, just one place above his career high.
Marco Cecchinato, who won his second tour title against Guido Pella in the final in Umag on Sunday evening, is already in 22nd place, while Pella made up 15 places with his move into the final and is currently number 57.
Nothing has changed at the top: Rafael Nadal leads the charts ahead of Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev. Dominic Thiem, in action in Hamburg this week, moved back to eighth place because Wimbledon semi-finalist John isner dropped 250 points from last year’s ranking.
Second-best German is Philipp Kohlschreiber in 25th place, with Mischa Zverev (44), Peter Gojowczyk (45) and Maximilian Marterer (47) among the top 50 according to the DTB.
Sebastian Ofner has made up 56 ranks with his Challenger victory in Astana, is now in 151st place. 113th best Austrian after Thiem Gerald Melzer.
