ATP: Mikhail Youzhny ends his tennis career in September

Russian professional Mikhail Youzhny ends his career after the ATP tournament in St. Petersburg in mid-September.

This was announced by the 36-year-old after his opening victory in Atlanta/Georgia against local hero Emil Reinberg (6-2, 6-0). “My time is over,” said the former world ranking night, who will meet Mischa Zverev (Hamburg) in the round of 16 on Wednesday.

Youzhny, currently number 105 in the ranking, has won ten titles on the ATP tour. His last success so far came in 2013, when he reached the semi-finals of the US Open twice (2006, 2010). Youzhny also won the tournaments in Stuttgart (2002) and Munich (2010).

In 2008 the Russian had caused a sensation with a scene when he hit his head so badly with the racket after a mistake at the event in Miami against Nicolas Almagro (Spain) that he suffered a laceration.
