WTA: Laura Siegemund reaches quarter-finals in Moscow
Laura Siegemund (Metzingen) has continued her winning streak and entered the quarter-finals of the WTA tournament in Moscow.
Last year’s Stuttgart winner Siegemund won 6:0.6:3 against Kateryna Koslowa from Ukraine in the round of 16. In the quarter-finals, the 30-year-old will face number two seeded Russian Daria Kassatkina or Tamara Zidansk (Slovenia), who defeated Antonia Lottner (Düsseldorf) in the first round.
After a long injury break, Siegemund has dropped to rank 217 in the world rankings due to a cruciate ligament rupture – but is constantly fighting back. In August 2016, she was number 27 and achieved her best ranking in the WTA classification to date.
The day before Wimbledon semi-finalist Julia Görges (Bad Oldesloe) had already reached the quarter-finals. On their way to successfully defending their title, the 29-year-old defeated Russian Natalia Wichlyantseva 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) and will face Slovakian Olga Danilovic in the final eight.
Last week Siegemund, Stuttgart winner of 2017 and in the second half of last season, had already been set back by a cruciate ligament rupture and reached the quarter-finals in Bucharest. There, the psychologist had only just lost to Petra Martic from Croatia in three sets.
