ATP: Roberto Bautista Agut reaches for third title in Gstaad in 2018
World Ranking 17th Roberto Bautista Agut will reach for his third title in 2018 at the ATP sand court tournament in Gstaad on Sunday. 30 year old Matteo Berrettini from Spain will face the unsettling Italian Matteo Berrettini in the Swiss Open final.
And Bautista Agut should be warned: power player Berrettini, who was 84th in the ATP ranking, had eliminated former Gstaad winner Feliciano Lopez (Spain/No. 8) as well as fourth seeded Andrey Rublev (Russia) on his way to his first ATP final.
On Saturday, 22-year-old “Mat” Berrettini defeated qualifier Jurgen Zopp in 1:19 hours 6:4, 7:6 (8:6) and remains without a set loss. The experienced Estonian had sent the top seeded defending champion Fabio Fognini (Italy) home in the second round.
At the French Open the Roman Berrettini, by the way a big football fan of AC Florence and 1.96 metres long, failed in the third round due to the later finalist Dominic Thiem (Austria). In four sentences.
Bautista Agut needed almost 2:41 hours to defeat the Serbian Laslo Djere 6:7 (5:7), 6:4, 6:4 at the 561.345 Euro endowed event in the Bernese Oberland on Saturday. The Iberian from Castellon de la Plana has already won the titles in Auckland and Dubai this season. Should he win in Gstaad on Sunday, it would be his second on clay – after Stuttgart 2014 – after nine tournament victories, “RBA” has not yet lost a final on the ATP tour.
