ATP Generali Open: Hanfmann loses Munar at the start in Kitzbühel

Yannick Hanfmann has dropped out in round one of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Kitzbühel: The German qualifier lost to Jaume Munar from Spain in three sets.

Robin Haase has once again shown that he is a true professional: The Dutchman, double tournament winner in Kitzbühel, dedicated himself to the first round match between Jaume Munar and Yannick Hanfmann in a box at the Center Court of the Kitzbüheler Tennis Club. For your own good: Finally, the fourth seeded Haase is waiting for the winner of this game.

And this winner is Jaume Munar, who won after 2:03 hours against Hanfmann with 2:6, 7:6 (5) and 6:1. Temperatures remain very summery and the grandstands are still well attended on children’s day. So well attended that a new record attendance can be announced for Monday in Kitzbühel.

Hanfmann, who played his way into the tournament by qualifying, had few problems in the first set, convinced again and again with stop variants.

In the second round the German could have won the match faster, but missed a break chance early in the set. From Hanfmann’s point of view, the start into the tiebreak went very badly – Munar led quickly 4-0, Hanfmann came back to 5-6, but the Spaniard made the last point of the set as recoil.

And the 21-year-old, who trains in the academy of Rafael Nadal, was the player with the bigger reserves in the decisive act and won in the end. Robin Haase was no longer a guest at the match point.
