Fed Cup player Tatjana Maria has messed up her start into the US hard court season.

The world rankings-82nd from Bad Saulgau, who has lived in Florida for years, lost to eighth seed Kazakh Yulia Putintseva in 2:35 hours 3:6, 6:3, 4:6.

This makes Andrea Petkovic the last German player at the preparation tournament for the US Open in New York (August 27 to September 9). The former top 10 player from Darmstadt will meet US Open winner Sloane Stephens (USA) after her sovereign opening victory in the round of 16.
