US Open: Gerald Melzer follows Dennis Novak into the qualifying final

Gerald Melzer will be the second Austrian to play for the US Open main draw alongside Dennis Novak on Friday. The Lower Austrian will meet Félix Auger-Aliassime.

Actually, there should have been the brother duel between Jürgen and Gerald Melzer in round two of the qualification for the US Open: The older Melzer had started extremely strong against Kenny de Schepper, but had to admit defeat in two sets. The revenge was now taken over by Brother Gerald: He defeated the Frenchman in two sets and can make his entry into the main draw at the US Open clear on Friday.

The match between Gerald Melzer and de Schepper lasted 2:24 and ended with 6:4, 4:6 and 6:4 for the Austrian. Melzer had to serve three times, but he managed four breaks.

In the final of qualifying, Félix Auger-Aliassime, one of the players to whom the tennisaugurs are predicting a golden future, is now waiting. “FAA” beat Chris Eubanks from the USA in two sets in round two. The match is the third to start on Court 15, not before 3pm local time.

Dennis Novak has to fight Lorenzo Giustino. As on Thursday, Novak will open the day, this time on court 12, Sebastian Ofner had no chance against Lucas Harris in the second round of qualifying.
