US Open: After abandonment because of heart problems: Felix Auger-Aliassime gives the all-clear
After his task in round one, young star Félix Auger-Aliassime spoke out.
He is considered to be the next man in world tennis – all the more bitter the task with tears for the US Open opener against compatriot Denis Shapovalov in round one at 5:7, 7:5, 1:4 – in a match that looked as if it could become a very tight box for a long time.
“The first two sets were good, but then my pulse just couldn’t go down,” said the 18-year-old from Montreal after the match, “this has happened to me more often. It has been known for some time that Auger aliassime has heart problems: “tachycardia” is the technical term, a constantly accelerated pulse.
His coach Guillaume Marx told ubitennis.com a few weeks ago: “We suspect that this problem is related to his growth and will disappear over time. In the last two years there have been very few problems, so we don’t have to do anything specific. Of course, we try to be careful when he’s tired, but that’s all.”
It is quite possible that the problem will be further investigated after the events in New York on such a sultry Monday. Auger-Aliassime spoke via Twitter on Wednesday with thanks for the support. He also wanted to assure me that “my health is intact and that I will have a further examination of what happened last night”. He wanted to be back on the match place soon.
