US Open: Melzer in round two, Oswald eliminated

Jürgen Melzer has entered the second round of the US Open alongside Nikola Mektic, while Philipp Oswald and Max Mirnyi have already failed.

Nikola Mektic has found a competent replacement for his injured partner Alexander Peya: Jürgen Melzer gladly jumped in, won with the Croatian at the start of the double competition against the German Peter Gojowczyk and his Indian partner Purav Raja 7:6 (2) and 6:4 after a playing time of 1:42 hours.

Philipp Oswald, who won a point for Austria with Melzer at the Davis Cup in Russia, had to admit defeat Marcus Daniell (New Zealand) and wesley Koolhof (Netherlands( 3:6 and 6:7 (8)) together with partner Max Mirnyi.

The third Austrian, Oliver Marach, was not scheduled until late afternoon. Marach leads the seed list with partner Mate Pavic.
