US Open: Nadal makes short work of Pospisil
Rafael Nadal has easily reached the third round of the US Open 2018. The defending champion defeated Vasek Pospisil in three sets.
Shortly the Canadian could hope in the second set: Pospisil took the lead with a 4-2 break, but had to give up the advantage in the next game. Nadal, who beat Kevin Anderson in the 2017 final, won 6:3, 6:4 and 6:2 on just under two hours.
In the third round on Friday, the world number one will face the Russian Karen Khachanov, who beat Lorenzo Sonego in three sets. Nadal has a 4-0 record against Khachanov, most recently they met in Toronto.
In a parallel match with Nadal’s appearance at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Nikoloz Basilashvili defeated local hero Jack Sock at Louis Armstrong Stadium in four sets. The Georgian has been looked after by German Jan de Witt for a few months now and will face Guido Pella from Argentina in round three.
