US Open: Oliver Marach also out in round one in New York after Wimbledon

Oliver Marach and his partner Mate Pavic are out of the US Open 2018: The first seeded double lost to Joao Sousa and Leonardo Mayer in three sets.

As in Wimbledon, the end came for the title favourites and leaders in the “Doubles Race to London” in the first match: In London Marach/Pavic had to cancel their sails in five sets against Federico Delbonis and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela, this time the result was 6:3, 6:7 (5), 5:7.

From an Austrian perspective, only Jürgen Melzer is now represented in the double tableau. The left-hander, who won the title alongside Philipp Petzschner in New York in 2011, entered the second round with Nikola Mektic.

Philipp Oswald with Max Mirnyi retired.

Marach and Pavic had started the year with their success at the Australian Open, in Roland Garros they were only stopped in the final by Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut.
