US Open: No coaching, no medical treatment – the Kyrgios story continues
All questions answered? Not at all. In the case of Nick Kyrgios and Mohamed Lahyani, the interplections of events diverge widely.
By Jens Huiber from New York City
Just to record the processes once again: It is indisputable that Mohamed Lahyani addressed a word to Nick Kyrgios at a score of 0:3 from the Australian’s point of view in the match against Pierre Hugues-Herbert. And this, after the Frenchman had decided passage one for himself. What implications this visit had for the further course of the game, now the opinions go apart.
Alexander Zverev, for example, had only known the final result of the match at the time of his press conference, not the circumstances in which it had come about. In the words of the journalists, the German number one said that Lahyani’s speech would have helped. And, with a twinkle in his eye, please hand over part of his prize money to Mohamed.
Which could not be far enough away from the evaluation by the person addressed: He, Kyrgios would not have heard at all what the chair referee suggested to him in insistent words. And anyway: a few minutes later, the Australian was 2:5 behind, no talk of help or coaching.
Which finally also called the USTA on the plan. Originally there was talk of an investigation into Lahyani’s behaviour. If there was one, the result was sent via e-mail to all interested parties: The Swedish Umpire would only have been concerned about the health of Kyrgios. As a result, the physiotherapist came to the court to treat the Australian the next time he changed sides.
Kyrgios denied that. He only received a salt tablet to defy the heat. The good news: There won’t be any problems with the heat on Saturday. On the one hand, a small weather change has been announced. On the other hand, it can be assumed that Kyrgios´ will be played against Roger Federer in the evening. At pleasant temperatures. And with a fully motivated Nick Kyrgios.
