US Open: Struff no chance against Goffin

Jan-Lennard Struff is eliminated in the third round of the US Open 2018. The German Davis Cup player lost to David Goffin from Belgium in three sets.

Philipp Kohlschreiber has won the German duel with Alexander Zverev at the US Open and thus inflicted the next bitter Grand Slam defeat on the young star. In the third round, the 34-year-old from Augsburg beat his 13-year-old rival after 3:09 hours deservedly with 6:7 (1), 6:4, 6:1, 6:3 and entered the round of 16 for the fifth time in New York.

After the 4:6, 1:6, 6:7 (4) defeat of Warsteiner Jan-Lennard Struff against David Goffin (Belgium/No. 10) Kohlschreiber is the last German tennis professional at the US Open. “The keys to victory against Zverev were the return and the slice, said Kohlschreiber: “I had the right tactics. High balls, deep balls, many angles. Little by little, I frustrated him.”

Struff made a late comeback against Goffin on court 17 and even made it to win the third set at 6-5. Goffin returned, however, securing the tiebreak and a place in the round of 16, where he will face either Marin Cilic or Alex de Minaur.
