US Open: Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic does not give himself naked in the round of 16
Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic has easily reached the quarter-finals of the US Open in New York with a three-set victory – and there it could come to a duel with an old friend.
The two-time tournament winner from Serbia won against Joao Sousa 6:3, 6:4, 6:3 and remained in the fifth duel with the Portuguese without losing a set. After exactly two hours of play, Djokovic turned his second match point. He won a total of 23 winners (with 18 Unforced Errors).
“I’m very happy that I made it in three sets,” said Djokovic, who again had problems with the heat: “It was more difficult than the final score says. “It was tough conditions, especially in the first two sets.” The co-favorite for the title only had to give up his serve once on Labor Day, the American Labor Day.
On Wednesday, the 31-year-old could meet his permanent rival Roger Federer (37). The Swiss Grand Slam record winner will play Australian John Millman in the second game of the night session at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
