US Open: Tseng misses two victories in tennis history
Four young ladies and gentlemen are still represented in the junior panels at the US Open 2018. While the number one of the boys can write history, the top seeded girl has already retired.
Chun Hsin Tseng is still missing two victories for his entry in the history books of junior tennis: After the French Open and Wimbledon, the Taiwanese could have won the US Open, the third Grand Slam tournament of the upcoming generation en suite. A possible success, which would be in the tradition of Stefan Edberg the great Swede had also won the 1983 tournaments in Paris, London and New York City. But then also the Australian Open, which was held at the end of the year.
In the way is Tseng a young man from Brazil, who the European tennis fans already saw this summer at the Generali Open in Kitzbühel during the qualification: Thiago Seybold Wild. In doubles, Tseng and Seybold Wild were still at the start together, seeded in position one, but without success: The end was already in round one.
In the women’s competition, however, the tournament favourite and French Open winner has already been eliminated: Cori Gauff, only 14 years old, lost to the Ukrainian Dasha Lopatetskaya in the quarter-finals. The first contender for the title is now Xiyu Wang from China, seeded in third place in New York.
