WTA: After US Open victory: Naomi Osaka is showered with million-dollar deals
Naomi Osaka made history by winning the US Open. In addition to the sporting glory, the 20-year-old has access to million-dollar deals with Adidas and Co.
At the age of 20, some find themselves in the middle of their training, studying or cashing in on millions of advertising contracts. At least this is how the new US Open winner Naomi Osaka is doing.
After her final victory against Serena Williams, the Japanese girl is very popular with some sponsors. Their outfitter Adidas wants to retain the 20-year-old for as long as possible and has now presented Osaka with a new contract. There are a massive 8.5 million US dollars a year in the budget. Adidas has never paid an athlete more.
The German sporting goods manufacturer has well-known names as advertising faces. Angelique Kerber, Caroline Wozniacki or Garbiñe Muguruza are a few examples. However, Osaka seems to surpass the established stars with the biggest coup in her young career to date.
In addition to Adidas, Osaka is now also under contract with the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan. It is not known how much the Japanese woman, who emigrated to the USA at the age of three, gets for this. The management of the 20-year-olds will probably not have been satisfied with an unprofitable deal.
Despite the millions that have flowed in, Osaka continues to be down-to-earth and acts shyly and cautiously in the social media. Congratulations from Andy Murray to the US victory answered Osaka with: “Unbelievable! Sir Andy, thank you very much!”. Despite their great success, Osaka still seems to reverence the “old hands” of tennis.
