WTA: First title since 2012 – Hsieh in Hiroshima too strong for Anisimova
Su-Wei Hsieh won the WTA tournament in Hiroshima. The Taiwanese player did not give Amanda Anisimova from the USA a chance in the final.
Amanda Anisimova has to be patient a little longer: After an outstanding tournament week in Hiroshima, the 17-year-old American lost 2-6, 2-6 to Su-Wei Hsieh of Taiwan in the final, which lasted only 58 minutes.
Anisiomva had made it into the main draw after qualifying and had not lost a single set before the final. It was Hsieh’s third tournament victory ever. The 32-year-old had previously triumphed in Kuala Lumpur and Guangzhou, both in 2012.
This year Hsieh had also caused a sensation at Grand Slam tournaments: At the Australian Open she defeated Garbine Muguruza, in Wimbledon even the world’s first Simona Halep.
Anisimova, on the other hand, will be the youngest player in the top 100 of the WTA world rankings as of Monday.
