ATP: Lucas Miedler defeated defending champion Damir Dzumhur in St. Petersburg
Lucas Miedler is out of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in St. Petersburg. The Austrian qualifier lost to Damir Dzumhur after a good start in two sets.
Dominic Thiem does not get any support from home in the second round of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in St. Petersburg. Lucas Miedler, who qualified for the main draw, lost to Damir Dzumhur 5:7 and 3:6 after almost 85 minutes.
Miedler got off to a good start against the defending champion, quickly leading 3-0 with two breaks, but then the Bosnian found his way into the match and managed to equal the score. And attacked the Austrian’s backhand again and again. Dzumhur looked for the way to the net, sprinkled stop balls over and over again.
Miedler, on the other hand, was too rarely able to take the offensive himself. In the second set Dzumhur presented, served after a small intermediate low sovereign to 6:3. In the qualification Miedler surprisingly defeated Viktor Troicki from Serbia, then Uladzimir Ignatik from Belarus.
This makes Thiem the only Austrian remaining in the 28 grid. The 25-year-old is in first place in St. Petersburg and is waiting for the winner of the match between Jan-Lennard Struff and Andrey Rublev.
