ATP: Thiem defeats Bautista Agut in St. Petersburg – in the final against Klizan

Dominic Thiem is in the final of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in St. Petersburg. There, Austria’s number one will meet Martin Klizan.

Dominic Thiem can win his third title in 2018 on Sunday. Thiem defeated Roberto Bautista 6-4 and 6-3 for the first time in the fourth duel and will face Martin Klizan from Slovakia in the final. Thiem has already won the two ATP Worl Tour 250 tournaments in Buenos Aires and Lyon this season.

The serve lasted until the tenth game, then Thiem secured himself with the first break of the match after 42 minutes set one. At 2:1 in the second set, Thiem first had a break chance, a Siel later it was Bautista Agut. The 25-year-old Lichtenwörther fended off with his 13th ace.

Thiem, on the other hand, benefited a few moments later from his opponent’s fifth double mistake, pulling away 4-2. Bautista Agut scored another 0:30 lead – Thiem scored four points in a row.

Thiem only played his Sunday final opponent Martin Klizan a few weeks ago – and lost in the third set at the Generali Open in Kitzbühel. The Slovakian, who celebrated his first ever tournament victory in St. Petersburg in 2012, beat Stan Vavrinka in three sets in the first semi-final.
