WTA: Osaka still untouchable – now in Tokyo final against Pliskova
Naomi Osaka and Karolina Pliskova will play the final of the WTA Premier Tournament in Tokyo. For the Japanese, this is the second final appearance in Tokyo after 2016.
US Open Hangover: Naomi Osaka cannot be stopped at her first performance since the triumph of New York City: The Japanese defeated Camila Giorgi from Italy 6-2 and 6-3 in the semi-final of the WTA Premier Event in Tokyo and will face Karolina Pliskova in the final on Sunday, who beat Donna Vekic from Croatia in three sets.
Osaka has still not released a set in Tokyo against renowned opponents such as Dominika Cibulkova or Barbora Strycova. Giorgi had beaten Caroline Wozniacki in the round of 16. Naomi Osaka lost to the Dane in Tokyo in 2016.
In the match against Giorgi, Osaka scored nine aces, no wonder she explained after the match that it was above all the serve that kept freeing her from delicate situations.
Naomi Osaka has a balanced record against Karolina Pliskova. In Toronto in 2017, the Czech won the quarter-finals of Indian Wells Osaka in spring 2018. Who then also celebrated her biggest tournament victory to date.
