WTA: Rankings: Head-to-head race between Pliskova and Bertens
The battle for seats in the WTA finals in Singapore is coming to a head. In the spotlight: Two tournament winners from Sunday.
Karolina Pliskova v Kiki Bertens – this could be the most interesting match on the WTA tour in the coming weeks. Even if the two ladies may never compete at all. But: The Czech overtook Bertens in the Porsche Race to Singapore with her tournament victory in Tokyo. And this, although the Dutch woman also finished last week successfully, with the triumph in Seoul.
Pliskova is eighth in the race, Bertens one place behind him. Elise Mertens and Serena Williams follow with a respectful distance, but, as in previous seasons, their plans for the autumn tennis season are rather opaque.
Simona Halep leads the annual ranking as well as the regular WTA world ranking. This week, the Romanian will compete in Zhuhai like almost the entire world elite. Only Naomi Osaka, in third place in the race, withdrew her nomination after her move from Tokyo to the final.
Angelique Kerber, already qualified for the Singapore season finale, will play Madison Keys in Wuhan, against whom she lost three sets in Cincinnati in August.
