WTA: Sabalenka against Kontaveit in Wuhan for biggest career title
Aryna Sabalenka and Anett Kontaveit will play in the final of the WTA Premier 5 event in Wuhan. In each of their semi-finals, the two players won in two sets.
In the sixth game of the second set Ashleigh Barty had the chance to make a small comeback: 15:40 on serve of Aryna Sabalenka, the 3:3 seemed close. Four serves later, which the Australian could only touch, if at all, with the frame, the score was 4:2.
In the end, however, it was the 20-year-old Belarusian who secured a place in the final of the Premier 5 event in Wuhan. 7:6 (2) and 6:4 was the final score after 86 minutes playing time. Sabalenka, who already won the WTA tournament in New Haven this summer, will play for her biggest career title on Saturday (live on DAZN). At the beginning of the year, Barty had beaten Sabalenka at the Australian Open.
In the first semi-final Anett Kontaveit had finished the run of the local hero Qiang Wang, the Chinese had to give up at the score of 2:6 and 1:2. Kontaveit has already set an exclamation mark this year. At the US Open the Estonian defeated Simona Halep, number one seeded, in round one in two sets.
